Notes from Shelley :

We have used a similar board for both our children for a few years. It was recommended by an Occupational therapist to help with the following below and we use the board most days in some form or another.  Apart from just being an open ended fun play item the Kinderboard will have the following added hidden benefits for children (especially those with sensory or special needs) :

Helps Improve Mental Focus

To balance properly, you must learn how to keep your center of gravity aligned over your base of support. Challenging your balance forces the left and right halves of your brain to communicate more, thus improving sensory integration and coordination. If you then move an arm or leg across the mid-line of your body while on the wobble board, you further challenge this neuromuscular communication. By doing slow, controlled balance exercises on boards, you will increase your self-awareness and help train the brain to focus on one thing at a time.

Helps Improve Functional Strength

These kind of boards help develop muscle tone and functional strength.  Functional exercise help your muscles work better in everyday activities. Things like sitting on the mat during classtime , sitting and focusing in your chair at school etc .  No individual muscle functions alone, so exercises should include a variety of movement patterns for the best results. Functional exercises done on a kinderboard challenge multiple muscles and joints to stabilize and adjust themselves. Because your core muscles contract whenever you are in an awkward or unstable position, just standing on a wobble board will develop core strength and improve lower body strength.  you may need to supervise this at first with your children that have coordination or low muscle tone.

Helps Improve Proprioception and Balance
Proprioception is your ability to sense your environment and adjust the positions of your body accordingly. It is what allows you to hit a tennis ball, hold a weight or stand on one foot, for example.  Kids with special needs such as ADHD , Autism and more tend to need help developing and strengthening their balance and proprioception.  This board allows them to work on this without realizing !!

    Refreshing simplicity
This lovely board has been very popular with 2 1/2 year old, used as a rocking board , slide , bridge, chair, table and more. A nice change from the usual toys. Seems to be strong and durable. Very pleased with my purchase. Quick delivery.

    Great choice
We purchased the kinderboard for our 4 year old daughter for Christmas. Several months on it is still much enjoyed and utilised by our daughter as well as our 6 year old & 14 month old sons. From rocking to climbing to imaginative play; gently resting or rocking to calm or role play, all ages children are able to integrate it into their play and rest. An investment well worth it!

    Toy of the year
This board will change your life or at least the life of your little explorer. This is our second board we had to sell our last one in Germany as we couldn’t bring it with us, so when I saw this advertised I knew I had to get it. Here is the 411 this is no ordinary rocking board, for one it is sturdy enough for an adult and balanced enough for a young toddler, it can be a see saw or a bridge for cars and then a slide if you put it on the edge of your sofa. It can calm a sensory overloaded child, or can get a timid child out of their shell and playing. It is a great way for a child to be active while watching tv, awesome if the the child has ADHD and needs to focus they can rock while doing another activity. If your child has ASD it is a great therapy tool for low cost, and if your child doesn’t that is fine too they will love just the natural play and imagination that comes with this one single rocking board. So I could go on all day this is an amazing investment that will replace a lot of toys and give hours if not years of fun. The sky’s the limit when it comes to the kinder board.
